Michelin, Honda Reach Settlement In Tire Case

Tire manufacturer and American Honda Motor Co. have announced a settlement of a nationwide class-action lawsuit brought by consumers over so-called 'run-flat' tires.

GREENBELT, Md. (AP) -- Tire manufacturer Michelin North America Inc. and American Honda Motor Co. Inc. have announced a settlement of a nationwide class-action lawsuit brought by consumers over so-called "run-flat" tires.

The agreement was announced in a two-page motion filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed.

The settlement requires the approval of U.S. District Judge Roger Titus. A hearing is scheduled for Jan. 14.

Honda equipped some of its vehicles with Michelin's PAX Tire and Wheel Assembly System. The consumers claimed the companies failed to disclose that the tires last half as long as radial tires. They also alleged the tires are expensive to repair and replace.
