Continental AG To Open Plant In Thailand

German auto parts manufacturer will open in July next year its first manufacturing plant in Thailand, an executive of the firm's subsidiary in Thailand said Tuesday.

BANGKOK (Kyodo) -- Continental AG, a German auto parts manufacturer, will open in July next year its first manufacturing plant in Thailand, an executive of the firm's subsidiary in Thailand said Tuesday.

Thomas Chambers, managing director of Continental Automotive (Thailand) Co., said the facility, located in the Amata City Industrial Estate in Rayong, east of Bangkok, is part of the shift of the automotive business from the West to the East.

"One out of every two cars in 2012 will be produced in Asia," he said. "So it is absolutely the right place for us to be."

The company has 35 manufacturing locations in Asia, with research and development units in Japan, South Korea and India.
