Continental AG Consolidates Operations

Automotive supplier will transfer its South Carolina manufacturing operations to Virginia, creating 318 jobs at its Newport News facility.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Automotive supplier Continental AG is creating 318 jobs at its Newport News facility.

Gov. Tim Kaine announced Monday that Continental will transfer its South Carolina manufacturing operations to Virginia. The company will invest $194 million to relocate diesel fuel injector manufacturing and expand the existing gasoline fuel injector business line.

The consolidation will combine the diesel and gasoline fuel injector manufacturing operations into a single location. It kept more than 500 jobs at the Newport News facility in addition to the new job opportunities.

Continental supplies brake systems and tires, as well as components for instrumentation and vehicle electronics.

Kaine approved $3 million from the Governor's Opportunity Fund for the project.
