Rocket Manufacturer ULA To Lay Off 350

United Launch Alliance, blaming the worsening economy which has slowed the demand for rockets, will lay off 350 workers early next year at facilities in four states.

DECATUR, Ala. (AP) -- Rocket manufacturer United Launch Alliance has announced it will lay off 350 workers early next year at facilities in four states, including Alabama.

The layoffs will begin in Feb. and will include employees at its production facility in Decatur. Julie Andrews, a company spokeswoman, said its unclear how many workers at the Decatur plant will be affected.

Denver-based ULA builds rockets, including the Delta and Atlas, for military and commercial uses.

Company executives blamed the layoffs on a worsening economy which has slowed the demand for rockets.

ULA also operates facilities in Fla., Texas and Calif.
