N.H. Suffers More Manufacturing Layoffs

State’s manufacturing industry lost 700 jobs in August and September, and the layoffs keep coming as Hoyt Electrical Instruments laid off another handful of workers in less than a month.

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) -- New Hampshire's manufacturing industry lost 700 jobs in August and September, and the layoffs keep coming.

Hoyt Electrical Instruments in Concord laid off a handful of workers last week, less than a month after a previous round of layoffs. The company, which opened in 1904, is down to about 70 employees.

The state's Workforce Opportunity Council has heard from 32 companies that laid off at least 10 workers between July and October, nearly triple the number it helped during the same time last year.
