Micron Orders Mandatory Time Off

BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- Micron Technology Inc. is ordering workers at facilities around the world to take up to 12 days off to help the company save money.

The Boise-based memory chip maker says the furloughs will vary by facility and job to help the company respond to uncertainties in the market and declining customer demand for its products.

The request targets the holiday period. The company says mandatory dates for time off for workers in the United States is Dec. 22 through Jan. 2.

The order is the latest measure by the company to trim expenses. Last month, Micron announced it was cutting 15 percent of its work force, which translated to about 1,500 jobs in the Treasure Valley.
