Former Agriprocessors CEO To Be Arraigned

Sholom Rubashkin, the former head of the embattled kosher slaughterhouse, is scheduled to be arraigned on federal immigration charges.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) -- The former CEO of an embattled kosher slaughterhouse is scheduled to be arraigned on federal immigration charges.

The hearing for Sholom Rubashkin, the former head of Agriprocessors Inc., was set for Wednesday in U.S. District for the Northern District of Iowa in Cedar Rapids.

Also scheduled to appear was Karina Pilar Freund, who worked in the company's human resources department.

Last week, a federal grand jury returned a 12-county indictment against the company and its managers, including Rubashkin and Freund, alleging they were involved in efforts to employ illegal immigrants.

Federal immigration agents raided the northeast Iowa plant in May and arrested 389 workers.
