Coachmen Selling RV Business

Rival Forest River will acquire most of the assets of Coachmen's RV business, including the brands, product lines, central manufacturing operations and a dealership in Indiana.

MIDDLEBURY, Ind. (AP) -- Coachmen Industries Inc. says it will sell its recreational vehicle group in northern Indiana to rival Forest River Inc., a unit of Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc.

Forest River will acquire most of the assets of Coachmen's RV business, including the brands, product lines, central manufacturing operations in Middlebury and a dealership in Elkhart.

Coachmen Industries CEO Richard Lavers says Forest River will offer to keep on almost 85 percent of Coachmen's RV Group employees in Indiana.

Lavers says Coachmen will concentrate on its line of manufactured housing and the company headquarters will remain in the Middlebury area.

The companies on Friday did not disclose the terms of the sale, which is subject to the approval of Coachmen shareholders.
