Oshkosh Loses Chance At $20B Contract

In a decision that surprised Wall Street analysts, Oshkosh Corp. was eliminated from competition to develop a lightweight military tactical vehicle to replace the once mighty Humvee.

OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) -- In a decision that surprised Wall Street analysts, Oshkosh Corp. was eliminated from competition to develop a lightweight military tactical vehicle to replace the once mighty Humvee.

Analysts had expected Northrop Grumman Corp. and its partner Oshkosh Truck Corp. to be among the winners for the $20 billion contract.

The Army and Marines Corp. awarded deals to General Dynamics Corp. and Humvee maker AM General; Lockheed Martin Corp. and Armor Holdings; and BAE Systems and Navistar International Corp. All three teams will submit seven prototype vehicles, plus four trailers to be evaluated and tested by the services.

Oshkosh Corp. spokeswoman Ann Stawski says the company remains firm in its belief that it developed the best vehicle to replace the Humvee.
