EAST SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) -- An upstate New York auto parts factory is facing more than $145,000 in fines from federal regulators.
U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration inspectors are citing New Process Gear for 65 violations of workplace safety standards.
OSHA says it targeted the suburban Syracuse plant because of its higher than average injury and illness rates.
Federal inspectors say the violations were serious and included blocked exits, lack of emergency signs, lights and equipment, and unsafe floors, ladders and other equipment.
The company has 15 days to contest the citations. New Process officials were not immediately available for comment. The company employs about 2,000 workers and is owned by Magna Powertrain.
