Magna To Make More Workers Part-Time

Austrian auto parts manufacturer says it plans to temporarily give an additional 380 employees part-time status due to the economic downturn.

VIENNA, Austria (AP) -- Austrian auto parts manufacturer Magna says it plans to temporarily give an additional 380 employees part-time status due to the economic downturn.

Spokesman Daniel Witzani says the move will affect workers at the Magna Heavy Stamping plant near the southeastern Austrian town of Gleisdorf that employs about 600 people.

On Monday, the company announced it planned to temporarily shift 2,600 employees to part-time status at its Magna Steyr plant in Graz starting next month.

Witzani said Friday the move is meant to prevent layoffs.
