Lennox To Cut 280 Jobs In Iowa

Company plans to eliminate 280 jobs at its air conditioner plant in Marshalltown by the end of the year.

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (AP) -- Lennox International Inc. plans to eliminate 280 jobs at its air conditioner plant in Marshalltown by the end of the year.

Worker Jason Vajgrt says this is a bad time to lose his job because the holidays are approaching, he has a new baby on the way, and other job openings are scarce.

Lennox officials say competition is a large part of why they're moving some work from Iowa to their new plant in Mexico. But the plant in Marshalltown will continue to employ about 800 people after the cuts are completed.

Last year, Dallas-based Lennox moved 100 to 200 jobs out of the Marshalltown plant to Saltillo, Mexico.
