LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. (AP) -- Greenbrier Cos., which makes railroad freight car equipment, said Wednesday it has inked a deal to build 10 heavy lift series deck cargo barges for a subsidiary of Crowley Maritime Corp.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The barges will measure 400 feet in length and 105 feet wide. The company said the barges are equipped with a massive deck loading capability and can be used in a variety of services including construction, salvage, oil and gas development, and container transportation.
Crowley plans to use the barges to handle project work for the offshore energy industry in the Gulf of Mexico and elsewhere.
Lake Oswego, Ore.-based Greenbrier builds railroad freight cars and marine barges. It also repairs and refurbishes freight cars and provides wheels and railcar parts. The company said the its backlog now exceeds $200 million, with production extending into 2012.
Jacksonville, Fla.-based Crowley is a transportation, marine services and logistics company.
