KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Kansas and Missouri are among 10 states in an alliance with General Motors to boost the accessibility of E-85.
The states will partner with GM and the National Governors Association to promote the 85 percent ethanol fuel. The automaker will help place more E-85 pumps at retailers and ensure an adequate supply of the fuel.
GM manufactured about half of the 7 million flex-fuel vehicles on America's highways and plans to have half of the vehicles it produces run on E-85.
Nationwide E-85 is sold at about 1,700 retailers, or less than 1 percent of the stations. An industry trade group says Missouri has 112 E-85 stations and Kansas 39.
