Gail Pittman Inc. To Shut Down Mississippi Factory

Company’s emphasis will shift to design and licensing as it moves production of its hand-crafted tableware and shuts down its Ridgeland manufacturing facility in 2009.

RIDGELAND, Miss. (AP) -- Gail Pittman says she isn't moving production of her hand-crafted tableware overseas but her manufacturing facility in Ridgeland will shut down in early 2009.

Pittman, the founder and owner of Gail Pittman Inc., said Monday that the company's emphasis will shift to design and licensing.

The Ridgeland plant employs 45 workers.

Pittman would not say where manufacturing would go.

Last week, Pittman said production would be outsourced and hinted that offshore production facilities were available.

On Monday, Pittman said overseas referred to a company based outside the U.S. wanting to enter into a licensing agreement for a GPI design.

Earlier this year, GPI cut some employees and went to a four-day work week.
