VANCOUVER (CP) -- Delhi Transport Corp. has ordered 3,125 natural gas buses equipped with engines made by Cummins Westport, a joint venture of Cummins Inc. and Westport Innovations Inc.
The Delhi Transport Corp., which serves India's second-largest city, operates one of the largest compressed natural-gas bus fleets in the world.
"This order of over 3,000 engines, our single largest to date, highlights both the quality of our products and our efforts to make our clean burning, natural gas engines available around the world," said Guan Saw, president of Cummins Westport.
A Supreme Court order in 2002 mandated New Delhi's entire bus fleet to convert to cleaner-burning compressed natural gas.
New Delhi and the surrounding national capital region have a population of about 10 million people, making it the second-biggest city in India after Mumbai.
