BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (AP) -- Coca-Cola Enterprises says it will close its Binghamton bottling facility by early January. But a company representative says the fate of the plant's 62 full-time employees is unknown.
Spokesman Toney Anaya says some workers will transfer to other Coca-Cola plants. The company has other regional facilities in Syracuse, Elmira and Pittston.
Anaya says economic challenges and a drop in the company's stock prices contributed to the closing. He also says the Binghamton plant is antiquated and its other regional plants will be able to handle the production.
Coca-Cola Enterprises owns 85 percent of Coca-Cola bottlers in North America. Anaya says so far the Binghamton facility is the only one scheduled to close, though more could be shut down at a later date.
