Cessna Breaks Ground On Wichita Facility

Company celebrating the start of construction on a new facility to build its Citation Columbus business jet that is expected to bring more than 1,000 direct jobs.

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) -- Cessna Aircraft Co. is celebrating the start of construction on a new facility in Wichita to build its Citation Columbus business jet.

Wednesday's event is drawing business, local and state leaders to Wichita. Among them is Gov. Kathleen Sebelius.

The expansion is expected to bring more than 1,000 direct jobs with a payroll of $74 million. The company says it is investing $780 million to develop the Columbus.

Incentive funding is provided by state and local governments for the project. Earlier this year, legislative leaders cleared the way for the state to issue $33 million in bonds for the company.
