Bobcat Closing Georgia Plant

Plant that makes attachments for the heavy equipment maker in Carrollton will close on Nov. 23, eliminating 147 jobs.

CARROLLTON, Ga. (AP) -- A plant that makes attachments for Bobcat will close in Carrollton on Nov. 23, eliminating 147 jobs.

Bobcat makes heavy equipment for the construction industry, which has been among the hardest hit industries in the current economy.

The Carrollton plant has been manufacturing Bobcat attachments since 2005.

Charlotte, N.C.-based Doosan Infracore International said it will consolidate its operations in an attempt to bring its manufacturing output in line with falling demand for its products.

Nikki Bruce, communications manager for DII, said, "We determined that we would consolidate our manufacturing."

The company has plants in Gwinner and Bismarck, N.D., which it said will suspend operations for six weeks beginning in mid-December, Litchfield, Minn., and Statesville, N.C.
