Tronox Hikes Titanium Dioxide Pigment Prices

Chemical company is raising its prices for all titanium dioxide paint pigment grades sold in North America by 8 cents per pound.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Tronox Inc. said Wednesday it is raising its prices for all titanium dioxide paint pigment grades sold in North America by 8 cents per pound.

The chemical company said the latest price increases were effective immediately or as allowed by established purchasing contracts.

Tronox, which makes white pigment used in paints, plastics, paper and consumer goods, is the world's third-largest producer and marketer of titanium dioxide pigment.

The company has been hurt by the slump in housing -- an important end use for its products -- and higher materials costs.

Tronox stock was trading up 2 cents Wednesday afternoon to 69 cents per share.
