SAO PAULO, Brazil (AP) -- The government of Brazil's Sao Paulo state says South Korean auto maker Hyundai Motor Co. will build a US$600 million plant in the city of Piracicaba.
In a statement posted Thursday on its Web site, officials say that the new factory is slated to begin producing 100,000 vehicles a year starting in 2011.
The statement did not elaborate and officials at a government office reached by The Associated Press could not provide additional details. The O Estado de S. Paulo newspaper says the plant will produce a compact car for both domestic and export markets.
Hyundai already produces its HR light truck in Brazil's central state of Goias.
