Mitsubishi Schedules Talks For Illinois Plant

Automaker said contract talks for workers at its plant in Normal, Ill., are scheduled to resume Sept. 24; most recent contract expired on Sept. 5.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Mitsubishi Motors North America says contract talks for workers at its plant in Normal, Ill., are scheduled to resume Sept. 24.

Mitsubishi spokesman Dan Irvin says employees continue to report to work as usual at the plant. He says the company is continuing its policy of not commenting on the specifics of the negotiations.

The plant's 1,366 employees represented by the United Auto Workers union have been reporting to work without a contract since their most recent labor agreement expired Sept. 5. The deal expired after the union unanimously rejected the automaker's latest offer.

Phone calls seeking comment from the UAW were not immediately returned.

The Illinois plant produces four models -- the Eclipse, Eclipse Spyder, Galant and Endeavor.
