JLG To Lay Off 800 Workers

Company that makes aerial work platform lifts for business and the military will lay off a total of 800 people at its five North American plants by early next month.

OAKES, N.D. (AP) -- A company that makes aerial work platform lifts for business and the military has announced layoffs at its plants worldwide, including one in Oakes.

JLG Industries, Inc., spokeswoman Kirsten Skyba won't say how many workers at the Oakes plant are affected, but she says a total of 800 people will be laid off from the company's five North American plants by early next month.

Skyba says the cuts started in July.

The Oakes plant makes hydraulic cylinders for JLG, which is based in McConnellsburg, Pa. JLG Industries also has plants in Asia, Australia, Europe and South America.
