WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) -- The company that owns a Waterloo tannery plant that employs 108 people is mulling moving it to Mexico.
Eagle Ottawa officials say they'll decide by the end of the month whether their automotive hide processing business will leave Waterloo.
The company's vice president of human resources in North America, Scott Landis, says a final decision hasn't been made but says the company is looking for non-automotive business to keep the Iowa facility open.
The Waterloo plant is unionized and represented by the United Steelworkers.
Company management and union leadership were informed of the potential move on Friday.
A spokesman for the United Steelworkers, Garth Bowen, says employees are understandably upset, but says the union is going to take a wait and see approach.
The plant's current labor agreement extends through Aug. 1, 2009.
