Erie Plastics Enters Bankruptcy Protection

Pennsylvania plastics plant that recently lost Proctor & Gamble as a major customer has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection while it mulls a possible sale to Ohio investors.

CORRY, Pa. (AP) -- A Pennsylvania plastics plant that recently lost Proctor & Gamble as a major customer has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection while it mulls a possible sale to Ohio investors.

P.C. Roche, who owns Erie Plastics, of Corry, says the bankruptcy filing was necessary to protect the company from creditors while the business restructures.

Roche says he's negotiating with the Crawford Group of Ohio to purchase the company, which would then be called Wellington Products.

The company says it doesn't anticipate any work interruptions. Last week 165 union workers approved concessions to keep the plant running.

Erie Plastics was founded in 1960 and specializes in thin-wall plastic packaging for consumer products.
