Corona Recalls Over 6 Million Kerosene Heater Tanks

Electric appliance firm said it will recall the removable fuel tanks it manufactured in and before 2000 because deformation in the tanks' filler caps could cause fuel leaks.

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Corona Corp. said Wednesday it will recall the removable fuel tanks of around 6.36 million kerosene heaters it manufactured in and before 2000 because deformation in the tanks' filler caps could cause fuel leaks.

The electric appliance firm said it will inspect and repair the tanks free of charge.

The firm said that over time the filler openings of the tanks could become deformed, preventing them from closing properly and causing leaks.

According to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, a fire incident occurred last December in Kyoto Prefecture due to an oil leak from one of the tanks.
