DULUTH, Minn. (AP) -- Cirrus Design Corporation has trimmed its workforce in Duluth and Grand Forks, North Dakota.

The Duluth-based airplane manufacturer let go of 100 workers this week -- 71 in Duluth and 29 in Grand Forks.

Cirrus cut the size of its workforce by about 8 percent through the reductions.

Company president and chief operating officer Brent Wouters says with the economic downturn, Cirrus is "not selling as many airplanes as we'd hoped to this year."

After the layoffs, Cirrus will employ 1,230 workers companywide, including 980 in Duluth and 250 in Grand Forks.
