AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) -- An 82-year tradition of canning stew and hash at Castleberry's Food Co. will end when its Augusta plant closes in two months.
Those products will be made in New Jersey at the plant of Aunt Kitty's Foods Inc., a subsidiary of canned food giant Hanover Foods Corp.
Connors Bros. Income Fund announced Tuesday it had found a buyer for its meat products division. The Augusta plant was not part of the deal and will close after a 60-day transition.
A company spokesman says the closure will affect 327 employees.
In July 2007, the plant was shut down for about two months over a national botulism outbreak tied to cans of Castleberry's hot dog chili sauce.
