Campbell Expanding North Carolina Plant

Soup maker said Monday it plans to expand its Maxton, N.C., plant, adding 50 jobs and a production line for making ready-to-serve soups and broths packaged in cartons.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- Campbell Soup Co. said Monday it plans to expand its Maxton, N.C., plant, adding 50 jobs and a production line for making ready-to-serve soups and broths packaged in cartons.

The company plans to spend more than $16 million. It will receive $150,000 in state incentives if it expands employment beyond the current 800 workers over three years. The company's average annual wage will be $41,267, plus benefits. The Robeson County average annual wage is $25,116.

Campbell expects to complete the expansion by summer 2009.
