MONTREAL (CP) -- Siemens Transportation Systems and Bombardier Transportation have jointly won a 121-car order from Swiss federal railway Schweizerische Bundesbahnen.
The low-floor intermediate double-deck coaches are valued at a total of 189 million euros, or US$277 million, and the companies said Tuesday there is a "foreseeable option" of 40 more cars.
Siemens' share is 122 million euros and Bombardier's share amounts to 67 million euros, or US $98 million.
Deliveries are set for between October 2010 and March 2016.
The car bodies will be manufactured by Siemens in Vienna, Austria, with final assembly and commissioning by Bombardier in Switzerland.
"We are proud to be a part of the team that will deliver these new double-deck coaches to SBB," stated Alfred Ruckstuhl of Bombardier Transportation Switzerland.
"We are happy that our site, Villeneuve, will benefit from the workload that this order will bring."
Bombardier Transportation, the Berlin-headquartered railway equipment division of Montreal-based Bombardier Inc., employs 750 people in Switzerland.
