GENEVA, Ala. (AP) -- Geneva-based BAE Systems has announced it will lay off 200 workers and shut down its plant later this month.
The BAE facility, also known as the Second Chance Body Armor Plant, manufactures body armor and related products.
A company executive blamed the closure on decreased demand, especially contracts from the U.S. Defense Department.
Bryan Styles, director of operations, said laid-off workers will be offered severance pay and would be eligible to transfer to other BAE plants.
