ESSEX JUNCTION, Vt. (AP) -- IBM is reducing pay for some of its shift workers at its semiconductor plant in Essex Junction.
The company says some workers paychecks will be reduced by up to 10 percent early next year.
IBM spokesman Jeff Couture says the company plans to discontinue premiums for assembly line employees who work seven 12-hour days over a two-week period.
He says about 3,500 employees at plants in Essex Junction, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and East Fishkill, N.Y. would be affected.
Those workers have been earning a 20 percent premium over their wage, plus overtime pay.
Couture says workers would receive a base pay increase in January that would offset the cuts.
