Ex-Texas Instruments VP Becomes Cree COO

LED light maker appointed Steve Kelley, a former Texas Instruments vice president, to the newly created position of executive vice president and chief operating officer.

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -- LED light maker Cree Inc. on Tuesday appointed Steve Kelley, a former Texas Instruments vice president, to the newly created position of executive vice president and chief operating officer.

Kelly, whose appointment took effect immediately, will be responsible for business development, global manufacturing, technology and administrative operations at the Durham-based maker of light-emitting diodes.

Kelley comes to Cree after five years at Texas Instruments, where he served as vice president and general manager of the Standard Linear and Logic Group. Kelley previously spent 10 years at Philips Semiconductors in various management positions.

Cree shares rose 33 cents to $22.09 in morning trading.
