Beef Jerky Means Jobs For New Mexico

Fat Man Beef Jerky Company plans to open a production plant with federal grant money that will employ 20 workers.

HAGERMAN, N.M. (AP) -- New jobs are headed to the town of Hagerman.

A beef jerky company plans to open a production plant with federal grant money in the southeastern New Mexico village. It will employ 20 workers.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development Department awarded a grant to Fat Man Beef Jerky Company as part of the department's business program, said Ernie Watson, USDA Rural Development spokesman.

The company will use the money to buy new equipment and will open its newest production plant at the village's Industrial Park.

Hagerman has been struggling to create and maintain new jobs in the community, Watson said.
