ArcelorMittal, USW Continue Contract Talks

With a labor contract set to expire Sept. 1, the United Steelworkers union in Weirton, W. Va., is hoping it can soon reach an agreement with ArcelorMittal.

WEIRTON, W.Va. (AP) -- With a labor contract set to expire Sept. 1, the United Steelworkers union in Weirton is hoping it can soon reach an agreement with ArcelorMittal.

Local 2911 President Mark Glyptis says talks have been going on for 13 weeks.

The union's key issues are economic and retirement security, and reinvestment into the plants.

Glyptis says reinvesting profits into facilities is a key part of being successful in the global economy.

He says he'd also like to see 40 laid-off workers from the former Weirton Steel Corp. brought back onto the job.
