Nissan Auto Parts Supplier Cuts 36 Jobs

Yorozu Automotive has laid off 36 employees at its Mississippi plant, citing a lower demand for trucks and SUVs.

VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) -- Yorozu Automotive Mississippi, a supplier to Nissan USA, has laid off 36 employees at its Warren County plant, citing a lower demand for trucks and SUVs.

The layoffs represent a fourth of its company's workers.

Plant vice president John Lanier says high fuel prices have negatively impacted the truck and SUV market.

Yorozu employed about 130 and assembled front and rear suspension parts for Nissan's Titan, Armada and Quest models and for the QX56 SUV, part of the automaker's Infiniti brand.

Full production began in 2003, a year after another top Nissan supplier, CalsonicKansei, did the same. In February 2007, the CalsonicKansei closed its Warren County plant, citing a corporate redesign.
