Furniture Supplier Bringing Jobs To N.C.

Kellex Corp. is opening a manufacturing facility in Valdese, N.C., with plans to create 50 jobs over the next three years.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- A furniture supplier is opening a manufacturing facility in Valdese, with plans to create 50 jobs over the next three years.

Kellex Corp. supplies upholstered furniture. Plans announced Monday indicate the company will spend nearly $1.3 million on the new factory and will get a $30,000 state grant for the project.

Gov. Mike Easley said the state is pleased to bring in a furniture manufacturer that will help sustain one of North Carolina's tradition in the industry.

The North Ridgeville, Ohio-based company distributes primarily to the hospitality, time share and health care industries. The Valdese facility will be about 15 miles west of the company's national sales office in Hickory.

The governor's office said the average annual wage for the 50 jobs will be about $35,000.
