Canadian arm of Ford Motor Co. has been fined $175,000 for an industrial accident in September 2006 at its facility in Oakville, Ontario.

OAKVILLE, Ontario (AP) -- The Canadian arm of Ford Motor Co. has been fined $175,000 for an industrial accident in September 2006 at its facility in Oakville, Ontario.

An employee suffered a broken ankle while working at a testing station for finished vehicles at the company's assembly plant.

The employee was at the back of the vehicle where a floor exhaust vent began to retract, trapping the worker's leg and foot.

Ford pleaded guilty in the Ontario Court of Justice to failing to ensure the exhaust vent was equipped with and guarded by a safety device.
