Crocs Inc. To Promote Escalator Safety

After complaints surfaced about the colorful plastic clogs getting stuck in escalators, Crocs says it will start including tags on escalator safety with the shoes.

NIWOT, Colo. (AP) -- Crocs Inc. says it will start including tags on escalator safety with its shoes even though the company stands by the safety of its products.

There have been complaints about the colorful plastic clogs getting stuck in escalators. In April, Japan asked the Niwot, Colo.-based company to consider changing the footwear's design after complaints that children wearing the shoes have injured their feet while riding escalators.

Crocs President and CEO Ron Snyder said in a news release Tuesday that problems with escalators occurred long before Crocs was in business. But he says Crocs' high visibility presents a chance to spread the word about safety.

The initiative will start over the next few months and will be fully implemented by release of the company's spring line next year.
