Chemical Accident At German Plant Injures 81

Robert Bosch GmbH says 81 workers at its Bamberg plant were taken to hospitals following an apparent chemical accident at its car parts factory in southern Germany.

BERLIN (AP) -- Officials say dozens of people have been taken to hospitals following an apparent chemical accident at a car parts factory in southern Germany.

Robert Bosch GmbH says 81 workers at its Bamberg plant complained of headaches and sore throats. They were given medical treatment at the scene and taken to nearby hospitals for examination.

Police spokesman Robin Buss says that fumes were released by a chemical reaction early Friday. The cause was unclear.

Bosch says that the workshop involved is used to apply corrosion protection to car parts. It says some of the workers already have been released from hospitals.

Work at the plant resumed later Friday morning.
