Sunoco Products Adding Surcharge Beginning July 14

Packaging provider will add a $40 per ton average energy surcharge for uncoated recycled paperboard products in the U.S. and Canada because of higher energy costs.

HARTSVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- Packaging provider Sonoco Products Co. said Friday it will add a $40 per ton average energy surcharge for uncoated recycled paperboard products in the U.S. and Canada because of higher energy costs.

The surcharge will be added as a separate line item to all invoices for shipments on or after July 14, 2008.

"We have been impacted by dramatic increases in the cost for natural gas and diesel fuel during the previous six months and we expect continued cost pressure for the foreseeable future," James Harrell, division vice president and general manager of the company's Paper North America segment, said in a statement.
