Northwest Pipe Plans New Facility

Welded steel pipe maker said it will build a new tubular products pipe manufacturing facility in the Houston area.

VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) -- Welded steel pipe maker Northwest Pipe Co. said Thursday it will build a new tubular products pipe manufacturing facility in the Houston area.

Northwest Pipe said the facility will produce casing pipe for the oil country tubular goods market, which includes energy exploration and transmission.

The company said it will redeploy equipment from Portland, Ore., for the new plant.

Northwest Pipe is finalizing site location and permitting issues and expects to start construction on the new facility this summer.

The company expects it to start operating by April 2009.
