COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says Scotts Miracle-Gro products sold with unregistered herbicides were no more dangerous than similar, legally registered products.
The EPA ordered Marysville-based Scotts and three affiliates to stop selling or using pesticides that were unregistered, mislabeled and illegal in April. The lawn and garden company agreed to recall Miracle-Gro Shake 'n Feed All Purpose Plant Food plus Weed Preventer.
On Tuesday, the EPA released lab tests that showed the lawn products had chemicals in safe amounts.
The fertilizers were registered and sold under phony registration numbers. The company says it would spend as much as $20 million on the national recall.
