OSHAWA, Ontario (AP) -- A local Canadian Auto Workers leader says he hopes to bring the planned closure of General Motors Corp.'s Oshawa truck plant before the Ontario Labor Relations Board.
CAW Local 222 Chairman Keith Osborne says the closure violates the terms of the union's contract with GM.
He says the union's lawyers will pursue the grievance Tuesday and seek arbitration.
GM says the decision to close the Oshawa plant next year and eliminate 2,600 jobs followed the sudden collapse in the U.S. market for pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles.
The closing announcement resulted in a blockade starting June 4 at GM's Canadian headquarters in Oshawa. The union lifted the blockade Monday under court order.
