BAE COO To Become CEO

Company's chief operating officer, Ian King, will become chief executive on Sept. 1, replacing Mike Turner, who announced his intention to retire in October.

LONDON (AP) -- BAE Systems' chief operating officer, Ian King, will become chief executive on Sept. 1, the company said Friday.

King, 52, will replace Mike Turner, who announced his intention to retire in October.

King started his career with Marconi, which merged with BAE Systems PLC in 1999.

Last year, he was appointed to the BAE Systems board and was named chief operating officer for the U.K. and rest of world, which excludes BAE's operations in the United States.
