Overhead Door Closing Pennsylvania Plant

Company will close its Lewistown sectional plant by mid-December, moving production to its Williamsport facility; plant closure will affect 85 employees.

LEWISTOWN, Pa. (AP) -- Overhead Door Corp. says it will close its Lewistown sectional plant by mid-December, moving production to its Williamsport facility.

Human resources manager Tom Waite says the company is talking with the Greater Pennsylvania Regional Council Carpenters Union about options for the 85 sectional plant employees. Officials say the company's 320-employee Lewistown rolling steel plant is not affected.

Overhead Door is a subsidiary of Japan's Sanwa Shutter Corp. President Jim Tunall of the Juniata Valley Area Chamber of Commerce says the announcement is a blow to the region. It follows word of the planned closing of a dairy products manufacturer in October and phaseout of Mifflin County's Case New Holland facility later this year.
