LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- The president of a United Auto Workers local at a key General Motors Corp. factory said Friday he's optimistic workers will approve a new local contract and end a month-long strike.
Hundreds of workers were voting on the deal Friday at a convention center in Lansing.
Local 602 President Doug Rademacher said vote totals were expected to be announced later in the day.
''The energy on the floor feels like this is going to go through,'' Rademacher said. ''We won't know that for a few hours. But I've got to believe the majority of people were satisfied with what they heard here.''
Workers met Friday morning to hear details of the contract before starting to vote.
About 3,300 workers at the factory in nearby Delta Township have been on strike since April 17. The factory is the only one that makes GM's popular large crossover vehicles, the Buick Enclave, Saturn Outlook and GMC Acadia.
GM and the UAW reached a national contract agreement last fall, but local unions negotiate work rules and other issues. A UAW local at a plant in Kansas City, Kan., remains on strike. That strike began May 5.
