Whirlpool Forms Partnership With Chinese Company

Refrigerators and washing machines will be among the major home appliances produced by the new Chinese business created by Whirlpool and Hisense-Kelon Electrical Holdings Co.

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (AP) -- Whirlpool Corp. has formed a joint venture with a Chinese company to produce appliances for consumers in that country.
 
Refrigerators and washing machines will be among the major home appliances produced by the new Chinese business created by Whirlpool and Hisense-Kelon Electrical Holdings Co. Ltd.
 
Benton Harbor-based Whirlpool described it Monday as a 50-50 joint venture.
 
Whirlpool Chairman and Chief Executive Jeff Fettig says China is one of his company's key markets, and the success that Hisense has enjoyed there makes it an ideal business partner.
 
Hisense Chairman Zhou Hou Jian says Whirlpool's global position was a factor in his company's decision.
