UAW Local In Ohio Delays GM Strike

Automaker says the local at the Mansfield, Ohio, metal stamping plant decided not to strike Monday morning and told the company it would give a 12-hour notice before any walkout.

DETROIT (AP) -- A General Motors Corp. spokesman says a United Auto Workers local in Ohio has delayed a strike as talks continue on a local contract.

GM spokesman Dan Flores says the local at the Mansfield, Ohio, metal stamping plant decided not to strike Monday morning and told the company it would give a 12-hour notice before any walkout.

A message was left for UAW Local 549 President Pam Drake at the Mansfield plant.

Flores says negotiations continue at Mansfield and at three other factories where strikes have been threatened. Talks also continue at a key crossover vehicle factory near Lansing where workers have been on strike since April 17.

Local plants negotiate their own operating agreements separate from the national contract, which was settled last year. The local contract deals with issues such as overtime and work rules.
