Tenneco Laying Off 135 Workers At Nebraska Plant

Company says layoffs are the result of a United Auto Workers strike against American Axle that reduced demand for Tenneco products.

COZAD, Neb. (AP) -- The Tenneco plant in Cozad has announced that about 135 workers will be laid off there later this month.
 
Human resources manager Jay Edwards says the layoffs are the result of a United Auto Workers strike against American Axle that reduced demand for Tenneco products. The workers will likely be called back when the strike is over.
 
The layoffs will be effective April 14th. Employees were told Tuesday.
 
Tenneco is a $4.4 billion global manufacturing company based in Lake Forest, Ill., with some 19,000 employees worldwide. The Cozad plant has 640 workers.
 
The company designs, manufacturers and distributes automotive emission control and ride control products and systems.
